Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Beverly Louise Rourke (nee Roberts), age 79. Bev (aka Nanny) passed away peacefully at the Squamish hospice surrounded by loved ones early morning on Saturday, January 30th 2021.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years (Bruce); 3 children (Tammy (Ray), Diana, and Rob); 4 grandchildren (Holly (Ryan), Jake, Jenna, and Jesse); her older sister (Barbara); and all her extended family and friends both near and far.

Born in Valleyfield, Quebec, she emigrated out west to Squamish in 1973 with Bruce and their 3 young children. Although a piece of her heart would always remain firmly rooted in her beloved Quebec, she did eventually find a new home in Squamish. She enjoyed many years working at the North Vancouver Outdoor School doing what she loved: cooking and baking. In retirement, she kept busy by knitting, swimming, biking, attending Sunday services, and enjoying social coffees with the Tim Horton’s group.

Bev’s family are incredibly grateful to the hardworking nurses and doctors for their compassionate care during her time at Squamish General Hospital and hospice.

Due to current health restrictions, no service is planned at this time. In the meantime, Bev’s family would love for you to share your memories and messages through either www.squamishfuneralchapel.com or www.bevrourke.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the local food bank or a favourite charity of your choosing in Bev’s name.

I loved Bev with all my heart. She was such a strong connection to my mom. Everytime I saw her over the years (usually at Timmies) she would hug me tight, check on how the whole family was doing and then tell me how proud my mom would be of me. Then she would tell me how proud she was of each of you! Then she would roll her eyes and laugh that amazing laugh. She was a very special lady. Sending my love to all of you .

Edie and myself were saddened to hear of Beverley's passing. We fondly remember Bev's smile seated in her usual pew at St. John the Divine Anglican Church. During the exchange of the Peace she greeted us both with her warmth and I would always kid her about seeing her, Bruce and family at the Wigan Pier Restaurant, and that she had the same fish and chips and "Beer"-LOL-as me. Sending our prayers and thoughts at this time Bruce to you and your family. Edie and David Hildreth.

So sorry to hear of Bev's passing. We have known her since both our families arrived in Squamish at almost the same time. She was always so friendly. Working at NVOS was another connection. Our condolences to Bruce, Tammy, Diana and Rob; you must have lots of good memories of Bev.

It is with very heavy hearts that we hear of Bev’s passing, our deepest condolences to Bruce, Tammy, Diana, Rob and families.
So many wonderful memories of Bev, many of them evolving from us working together at NVOS. I think Bev was our cook for 15 out of 16 years of my crazy Ladies Weekends at the Conference Centre and I know every single one of those ladies enjoyed her cooking, and especially baking that she spoiled us with! Everybody that knew Bev had a favourite recipe as she was so generous to share with all! My kids in particular loved every morsel.
Bev always made time to be a friend and I’m so glad she was mine!
Rest peacefully Beverley.

Love you,

Mindy & John L’Hirondelle
